Production Blog: Bringing the Vision Together

Hello everyone! Welcome back to the blog! Now that we’ve finished filming the car ride sequences and the rooftop scene, it’s time for me to continue with the editing process. This is where all our hard work starts to take shape, turning the raw footage into a cinematic experience. Editing is one of my favorite parts of filmmaking because it’s where we get to craft the mood, tone, and pacing of the film. The first step was importing all the footage into the previously made Premiere Pro project and organizing everything into sequences. Since we shot multiple takes from different angles, I had to carefully review each one, selecting the best shots based on composition and quality. I started with the car scenes since those required the most work due to lighting and movement challenges. One of the biggest issues I faced was stabilizing the roller shots. As I mentioned before, the wind resistance while filming made the gimbal unstable, so I had to use Warp Stabilizer on several clips. In some cases, I had to cut around the worst moments and blend different clips together to keep continuity. The rooftop scene, on the other hand, was much easier to work with. The natural city lights gave us a beautiful backdrop. My main focus here was on pacing, I wanted to give moments to breathe so the audience could feel the weight of the moment. I used a combination of wide shots, close-ups, and drone shots, cutting between them to build emotion. Another major element we’re considering is music. The right song will make all the difference in setting the mood for these scenes. We've decided on Vienne by Billy Joel for the music of the final scene, but we haven't been able to figure out what scene we wish to use for the opening scene yet. The issue we are running into is getting copyright permissions. We have attempted songs from PartyNextDoor and Cigarettes After Sex but ended up getting rejected on all three songs. We are going to continue attempting to get another song, but if all else fails we will use a non-copyright track and work with it. Seeing the film start to take shape is incredibly rewarding, and I can’t wait to share more progress. That's it for today's blog! Up next, we’ll be finalizing our edits and preparing for the next round of filming. Stay tuned for more updates, and thanks for following along on this journey! See you in the next blog!
