Production Blog: Color Grading

Image
Hello everyone! Welcome back to the blog! Yesterday's blog spoke on the filming of the final scenes of our film. Today I will speak on the editing and color grading of the film! Today I will delve deep into the long process of color grading, marking the final stages of our film's post-production. Color grading played a huge role in conveying the emotional arc of our story. I embarked on this process with a clear vision, to use color to reflect the shifting emotions and dynamics of our protagonist. The initial scenes, characterized by a dominant blue hue, were intentionally graded to evoke a sense of melancholy and struggle. This choice wasn't merely aesthetic; it was symbolic, mirroring the protagonist's initial despair and challenges. As our narrative progressed, particularly through the training sequences, we gradually shifted the color palette. The transition from the cooler, subdued tones to a brighter, more vibrant spectrum was planned to symbolize hope and confide

Hello everyone! Welcome back to the blog! Yesterday's blog I spoke on the process of getting licensing for music, and how, unfortunately, it did not go our way. Todays blog is a blog im very excited to write. Not including reshoots, we have finished the filming process of our film! As all of you know, the final two scenes we needed to film were extremely difficult to film because they required going to a gym that has a boxing ring. The issue about this is, no one in our group has a membership to said gym. This was a huge issue, and was causing us to rethink how we would film the final scenes, even thinking of finding a new location to film if possible. Fortunately enough, that was not necessary. Our friend Alyssa, is a member of "The Zoo", which is the gym we need to film at, and has enough guest passes for all of us to attend the gym with her. With this being known we just needed to find a time that fit within all of our schedules. We found we were all free on a sunday

Hello guys! Welcome back to the blog! Today's blog is a bit different from the usual filming adventures. It's all about the journey I went on to include a particular song- "Black Skinhead", by Kanye West" in our video project. Focusing less about the visuals and more about navigating the complex world of music licensing. When we decided on the perfect song for our project, we knew it would fit in our video by matching the tone and emotion we aimed to convey. Excited to progress with our task, I reached out to Universal Music Group, explaining our academic intentions and how we planned to use the song in a class presentation. The initial response was encouraging, but things got complicated once I mentioned the need to post the video on YouTube, even just on a personal channel. The licensing world is tricky, especially when distinguishing between private and public online sharing. Our communication with UMe Film & TV Licensing revealed that despite our educat

Production Blog: Syncing Clips

Welcome back! Im happy to see you all again! Today, I'm eager to share with you another part in our filmmaking process—the task of editing the footage we've gathered over the past weeks. This phase of our project has been both a challenging and enlightening journey, requiring patience and an eye for storytelling. As I began editing, the first step was to organize the vast collection of clips. This process was, in simplest terms, like piecing together a complex puzzle, each clip a unique piece that needed to find its perfect place in the narrative we were weaving. Adobe Premiere Pro became my companion, offering its features as tools to sculpt the footage into a captivating story. The task of syncing scenes, particularly those requiring precise timing to convey the story between characters' motivations and actions, proved to be a challenge. However, through trial and error, I learned the art of transitions and the importance of pacing in storytelling. Adobe Premiere Pro'

Hello guys! Welcome back to the blog! Yesterday's blog I spoke on Renato and I's process of filming the training scenes together. For todays blog, I am happy to announce, the entire group was finally free for once. Due to us all being free, we decided to start working on the scenes that involve all of us, and ventured to the beach. Our day started off with a scene designed to illustrate the difference of characters between Renato and Finn. With our friend Sarah being there to add depth to the narrative, and further highlight Finn's relaxation. We positioned Sarah and Finn together to capture a moment of them enjoying the beach scenery. While Renato, determined, jogged in the background. This setup was planned to highlight Renatos determination and eagerness to work, in contrast to Finn's laid-back attitude. For the next shot, I took out my drone and lined it up behind Renato, 30 feet in the sky. This aerial perspective aimed to enhance the narrative, metaphorically, out

Production Blog: Filming Continued

Hello guys! Welcome back to the blog. It's been full of anticipation since Renato and I first embarked on filming some initial scenes for our movie. With the weekend rolling around again, we found ourselves with the luxury of free time, perfectly aligning with our schedules. This weekend, we've dedicated both days to our filming. Unfortunately, Isahiah and Finn couldn't join us again today, but we're expecting them to be with us tomorrow on the beach. Given this, Renato and I took the initiative to focus on scenes that spotlight his character, with a scene or two including me. Our day kicked off at LA Fitness, a chosen location for filming training sequences involving Renato's character. Despite lacking boxing gloves, we didn't let that hinder our progress. We took the opportunity to work on camera angles for a sparring scene, planning to revisit it with the proper gear if necessary. As we navigated through the gym, incorporating the treadmill and punching bag i

Production Blog: Filming With Renato

Hello guys! Welcome back to the blog! Today will mark the beginning of our filming for our final task! Last blog I spoke on how we planned our filming times and locations. For today's blog I will speak on the actual beginning of our filming. As said in the last blog, Finn and Isahiah are difficult to communicate with. So Renato and I decided we will film as many scenes possible together, and save the scenes Finn and Isahiah are needed for, for last. With this being said, Renato and I talked and figured out the best time to film would be after his afternoon practice. After practice I drove over to his house, arriving around 6:00 pm. This time was perfect, with the sun setting it set the mood exactly how we wanted. At first we filmed the drone scenes because those would be hardest with the limited time we had. The first drone scene was an establishing shot showing off Renatos neighborhood. This scene wasn't particularly hard to shoot, but we were in a rush because my drone was cl

Production Blog: Scheduling

Hello everyone! Welcome back to the blog! Today will mark the beginning of my productions blogs for filming our final task. For this blog I am going to begin with speaking on our planning process. We have had many struggles when it came to planning the schedule of our filming. At first we were meant to meet up every weekend all together, but Isahiah and Finn both got their phones taken and it was hard to communicate with them and actually plan times and locations. In addition to Renato having swim practice every morning and afternoon, plus finn having baseball season starting, it was nearly impossible for us to find a schedule that fit with all of us. To fix this issue we split up all the scenes and figured out who was necessary for every scene. I am in charge of filming and directing all of the scenes so I have to be there for all of them. Renato and Finn have to be there for all the boxing scenes. Isahiah has to be there for the phone call and training scenes. Finally, Austin and Fi
